A GROUP of out-of work Tamworth people may be able to find jobs at the town’s Arts Centre – making costumes and scenery.
The idea has been mooted in a bid to help provide work for the unemployed under the Government’s new Community Programme.
If the scheme is approved by the Manpower Services Commission then Tamworth Arts Advisory Council, may decide to employ people to make costumes and scenery for drama groups in the town.
Another idea is that the Arts Centre could be used as a centre for arts based courses.

TAMWORTH BAND Private Property – now down to just two full-time members – hit the road next week for a series of pre and post Christmas dates.
Mark Mortimer and Tim Goode are the sole survivors of the band following the sudden departure of Bryan (sic.) Lacey and Ian Simpson.
Dates for the local tour had already been organised so Mark and Tim decided that the show must go on and they will be enlisting the support of Donald Skinner of DHSS and Andrew Baines of The Long Days.
The Long Days will in fact be filling the support band slot on the tour.
Their line-up has now stabilised to Andrew Baines on guitar and vocals, Stephen Edge on percussion and backing vocals, Matthew Lees on vocals and guitar, Paul Summers on keyboards and backing vocals and former Classified Ads bassist Paul Clements.
Mark and Tim have christened the dates the ‘Bop ‘Til You Drop Tour’.
Dates are: Thursday December 9, Mile Oak Youth Club; Monday December 13, Polesworth Youth Wing; Monday January 10, Wood End Youth Club; Wednesday January 12, Tamworth Youth Centre; Monday January 17, Burntwood Youth Club; Wednesday January 19, Baddesley Ensor Youth Club; Thursday January 20, Kingsbury Youth Club; Thursday January 27, Armitage Youth Club and Saturday, January 29, Wigginton Village Hall.

TROJAN, kings of North Warwickshire heavy metal in 1981, are re-forming for a one-off gig.
The band’s line up is Dylan Haddon, vocals and guitar; Chris Kelt, guitar; Chris Price, guitar and Rob Hamilton, bass. They are playing at Polesworth Top Club on Monday December 13.
Of the original band only drummer Jon Peat will be missing and the band have promised to dig up many of their old songs which became such favourites with local audiences.
The aim is to boost attendances at the club’s Monday night gigs which have slipped recently.

IT’S NOT often that Musicbox receives phone calls from local fans about a band they have seen.
But that was just what happened not too long ago when an enthusiastic rock fan came on the line fairly brimming with superlatives about a gig at the Chequers in Hopwas.
Prophecy, an outfit from the fringes of the Tamworth area, were the band concerned and our caller couldn’t find words enough to praise their performance.
Prophecy are Kevin Fisher, guitar and manager; Dave Lea, drums; Satan Strange, guitar; Mark Force, vocals and Mick Eade, drums.
Guitarist Satan has been with a number of bands in the area before, including Thor and Hydro Vein and Mark also had spells with working bands.
So far their gigging experience together is limited – a situation which they hope to change soon.
Most of their material is based on ‘good time rock ‘n’ roll’ standards such as ‘Johnny B Goode’, ‘House of the Rising Sun’ and ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, but they are already penning some of their own compositions for future live use.

THE WIZARD OF OZ, opening soon in Tamworth, will be a family show in more ways than one. And for the Fortune family of Mildenhall, a little bit of wizardry wouldn’t come amiss right now.
Sue Fortune teaches, husband Dave runs his own catering business, daughters Rebecca and Melanie have drama and dancing classes to go to after school. And their evenings are just as hectic as all four rush to get to rehearsals on time.
