Turning around and immediately in front of us is one of Tamworth’s tower blocks – here there should be a blue National Trust plaque saying “Rikk Quay lived here…” – sadly not – one other notable resident, was one Ian Gibbons, local promoter. Walking back to Lichfield Street, if we went left and continued we would eventually come to The Chequers at Hopwas, a popular venue in the 70s and then continuing on we would reach Lichfield. Tamworth bands would often travel to Lichfield whose audiences had similar tastes to their Tamworthian cousins. Instead we turn right. |
