Turning around and facing across the road - this was the site of Tamworth Working Men's Club (now J.D. Wetherspoons). It must be remembered that in the late 60s and early 70s there were literally no venues in the town. With the exception of the Assembly Rooms where large scale 'Beat Nights' had now finished, the only place a local band could play was at the local Working Men's Club. This venue saw many local bands perform from as early as 1963 right through to the mid-80s - regulars included the Blue Hawaiians, Convention, Poetry and Rits. Return up Colehill and continue past the Arts Centre on your left into Lower Gungate. |
