Tamworth Bands : Audio
Memories, Changing My Mind, Disguise, Steamroller, Vertically Downwards, Rain and My Life were all produced by a guy called John Cross at Square Dance Studios in Derby some time around 1986. John Cross later produced the first Wolfsbane 12 inch single. Reason was recorded in a studio in Edmonton in London late in 1986 I don't remember the name of the studio, but the guy that produced the song was a guy called Royson Hollier.
The song Steamroller was autobiographical. At one of our gigs at the Arts Centre, Mark Brindley met a girl called Julie O and promptly invited her on a camping weekend in Wales. Bear in mind this was the middle of November, blanket fog, and Mark’s car was an old 1960s Volkswagen Beetle with peddle assisted heating. At some point on the A5 there were a set of road works with only one-way traffic. The lights were on green so he set off along the contra-flow. However, in the opposite direction was a steamroller. Exit one Volkswagen. Mark was fine but Julie was in hospital for a time. The first time Mark met Julie’s parents was at the hospital explaining a mid-winter camping trip to Wales!
